The lower the light, the less variegation & or color your plant will become. This plant needs water every 7 to 10 days, less or more depending on the temperatures, & will rot out in no time if you overdo it. It is hard to be specific, but

you may want to leave it on a dry container for couple of minutes to prevent any dripping water
