Historically used as a reusable stoneware bottle that traditionally held sake (Japanese alcoholic beverage) with the merchants name or location written on, ensuring the bottle was returned to the correct merchant. The vast majority of these bottles are crafted from kiln fired clay, often finished with a feldspar glaze
