In 1862 William Leigh and Frederick Rathbone Burgess in partnership took over the firm and moved it to Middelport Pottery at the Trent and Mercy Canal where it is located to this day. After the sons Edmund Leigh and Richard Burgess continued the firm, in 1912 the Leigh family took sole control and at the start of the 20th century the firm became known as Burleigh. In the
